Abortion Worst Medical Invention essays Abortion is the deliberate termination of pregnancy by removal of the fetus from the womb. Under the topic of abortion there are two clear sides - pro or for. Personally I am 100% pro, because in my eyes abortion is the same as murder. Murder is defined as, The taking of someone or somethings life. So if you dont see it like that then how would you define abortion. Currently abortion is performed by any one of four standard procedures, according to the period of gestation. The procedure that I will explain is called, suction, or vacuum aspiration. This method is used in the first trimester (up to 12 weeks). In this procedure, which normally takes five to ten minutes, on an outpatient basis, the cervix (neck of the uterus) is opened gradually with a series of dilators. The uterine contents are withdrawn by means of a small flexible tube called a cannula, which is connected to a vacuum pump. To ensure that no fragments of tissue remain, a spoon-tipped metal instrument called a curette may then be used to scrape the uterine lining. This procedure was introduced in China in 1958. This doesnt sound too wonderful. Most people dont know it but there can be some long term effects to having an abortion. Some of them are mild but others are more serious. They may include death to the mother, preterm delivery or low birth weight for second pregnancies. Some agencies have even stated that abortion can cause other health related problems like cancer for the mother. It has been proven that abortion is the fifth leading cause of maternal deaths in the United States of America even thou abortion related deaths are not officially reported as such.
